A modern classic!

Released in 2010, Mulatu Steps Ahead was gash Mulatu Astatke's first full album of new material since the 1980s, pushing his Ethio-jazz sound in exciting new directions. Listening to this double LP now, we love how it honors Mulatu's past, especially that Afro-Latin soul vibe from the '60s, while setting the stage for the music to come. The album also showcases more traditional Ethiopian instrumentation than ever before, particularly on tracks like "Radcliffe." We’re also big fans of "Mulatu’s Mood," for us a standout moment on the album.
